To Live: The Struggle

Chapter One

The protagonist is a 16 year old boy in Peiping (Old Beijing) who has to make a choice on what to do after the Sino-Japanese war has started. You have to make choices to save your life, sacrifice others and be called a traitor and survive deadly shootout and ambushes.

Chapter Two

This chapter is based in 1945 after the end of the Sino Japanese war where Fang is now 24 years old and in dnager of being forced to fight for the Kuomintang or the communists in the new civil war. You witness through him the horrors of war and what kind of factors force him to side with which side of the civil war.

Chapter 3

The People's Republic of China is now established. There is a looming Korean war,  the 100 flowers campaign and the great leap forward. Things become personal for Fang as he sees how his belief in this ideology begins to shatter from its promising happy ending it had sold to him.

Chapter 4

The cultural revolution. A time where the young are now ruling over China and Fang fears for expressing any backwards and counter-revolutionary thoughts. Waves of violence are encountered and many people close to him are forced to accept their death.
